Volunteers of the TOS France

Welcome to the web page of the TOS in France. We are happy to tell you about our service activities and we invite you to join us.

The TOS in France is an independent, legally registered organisation recognised by the European Commission.
We organise informal meetings regularly where members and friends of the TOS in France enjoy getting together for enriching exchanges.  Seminars are organised on themes such as: our carbon footprint; a healthy diet; animal suffering; service in our daily life; unmerited suffering in the world and the theory of karma; the spiritual challenge of old age; burial, cremation and alternative funeral services; solitude on the Path.  All these subjects are handled in a theosophic spirit. For a report on the seminar on alternative funeral services, see here.

Humanitarian activities:

  • TOS members sponsor the education of some 100 pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary students within India, including a number of Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala.

  • They also support the education offered at the Golden Link College in the Philippines.

  • In collaboration with the Liberal Catholic Church, the TOS supports a school of 80 children in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

  • The TOS sends donations to the projects of the Olcott Education Society in Adyar, Chennai, India: the Social Welfare Centre, the Olcott School, the HPB Free Hostel and the Besant Memorial Animal Welfare Dispensary.

  • It has supported the relief work of the TOS in Chennai.  It covered eye examinations for over 3,800 students and needy adults, along with the spectacles and operations recommended.

  • It supports a retirement home for childless widows in another suburb of Chennai.

  • It has contributed to the purchase of mobility aids for the handicapped by the TOS in northeast India.

  • The TOS in France provides emergency relief: Through the TOS in Kenya, it helped feed 55 families during a famine in the Horn of Africa and, along with other TOS groups around the world, contributed to the construction of a borehole to provide water.

  • It collects and delivers clothes, toys, books, etc. to various charitable associations within France.

  • A number of members participate as private citizens in activities in defence of human and animal rights, for the promotion of vegetarianism and for the protection of the environment.

How you can participate

  • Sponsor the education of a child (if you live within France).

  • Help with the mini-sales we put on to raise funds at the seminars we organise in Paris (if you live close by).

  • Donate objects for our sales.

  • Send us a donation for the project of your choice (see list above).  Please note that our work is done entirely by volunteers and every penny or cent goes directly to the operations supported.

We look forward to hearing from you!
